Thanks for taking the time to lend your support. This is our biggest and final push as we need to reach the ENTIRE legislature - so each person who writes really makes a difference.

This letter tells legislators there is significant public interest about this issue and can only be a brief statement (less than 2000 characters). It is ALSO tremendously helpful if you submit testimony to the HCIFS committee about your experience as a patient - testimony can be considered in their deliberations. Testimony needs to be submitted by March 24th. The Florida Naturopathic Physicians Association (FNPA) is asking all Florida residents to send a message to Governor Ron DeSantis asking him to sign CS/SB 688 to license Naturopathic Doctors (NDs). CS/SB 688 passed the Florida House and Senate with overwhelming majority. Now is the time to share your voice and encourage Governor DeSantis to sign!

Hello.

MAND would like to thank you for all your support for the modernization of the naturopathic formulary. It worked!

WHAT’S HAPPENED

Your voice helped drive the passing of a bill last summer requiring a full review of the naturopathic formulary (that’s the list of medications NDs can prescribe). The board that oversees naturopathic medicine has now completed a proposal for new rules regulating the profession.

These new rules would:

Modernize the formulary of medications naturopathic doctors can prescribe;
Allow NDs to administer nutrients and medications via IV therapy;
Make clear that NDs can order advanced imaging (CT and MRI with contrast).

The MAND is very encouraged the board has taken this step. It is a very good outcome and reflects the board's understanding of the training and safety record of naturopathic doctors in our state.

THE NEXT STEP

For the new rules to take effect, the board needs to hear from the public.

The MAND needs your help. We will face real resistance from the Maine Medical Society. With strong support, it is more likely the rules will remain as proposed. Without it, it is likely they may be revised negatively to limit the medications NDs can prescribe.

The board that oversees NDs needs to hear from you at the public hearing.

You have 3 options:

Attend in person. Feb 11 at 9am ET at 76 Northern Ave, Gardiner, ME. Sign in at the front desk, they will direct you to the meeting room.
Attend via zoom. A link to attend and participate in the hearing remotely Feb 11 at 9am ET will be posted on the Board’s webpage in advance of the hearing at: https://www.maine.gov/pfr/professionallicensing/professions/board-of-complementary-health-care-providers/home/board-meeting-information.
Write a letter to the board. In our next email we will provide you with a direct link and sample letter. Comments may be submitted in writing by Sat, Feb 21 by 5pm ET (a) by e-mail to Kristin Racine at kristin.racine@maine.gov or (b) by mail to the Board of Complementary Health Care Providers, 35 State House Station, Augusta, ME 04333-0035.

Wisconsin Naturopathic Doctors need your help!

If you believe in patient choice, whole-person care, and access to safe, preventive healthcare, now is the time to act.

Wisconsin legislators will soon be hearing AB 639, a bill that would grant limited prescribing authority to licensed Naturopathic Doctors (NDs). This legislation allows NDs to prescribe, dispense, and administer certain medications within the scope of their training, improving continuity of care, reducing delays, and expanding access to qualified providers.

Lawmakers need to hear directly from patients, families, and supporters of Naturopathic Medicine.

Support Medicaid Coverage of NDs Nationwide

Only 5 states currently cover the services of Naturopathic Doctors in Medicaid: Vermont, Connecticut, Washington, Oregon and New Mexico, despite the fact that evidence shows that care by naturopathic doctors can improve health outcomes and decrease costs because of our focus on prevention, whole health, nutrition and lifestyle medicine. Congress can direct the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services to require that any state that receives federal funding for Medicaid must credential and cover the services of Naturopathic Physicians. States that currently cover NDs in Medicaid can urge their congressional delegation to share their state's successful incorporation of NDs to other states. And congressional members in states that license NDs but don't yet cover the services of NDs in Medicaid would greatly benefit by providing patients more choices to see a healthcare provider that focuses on prevention. Expanding Medicaid coverage of NDs is also a step toward federal recognition of NDs in other federal programs like Medicare.

Please urge your representatives to support Medicaid coverage of NDs in all states where NDs are licensed!

The Wisconsin Naturopathic Doctors Association needs your support! We are collecting written testimony from MDs and DOs who are in support of licensure for NDs. We plan to share your written testimony at our Senate hearing on Wednesday, September 29 at noon.

Please take a few minutes to show your support by sharing with the members of the Senate Committee on Insurance, Licensing and Forestry what your experience has been with qualified, medically-trained NDs and why you support licensure for NDs. Here are some guidelines/questions to ponder:

Share about your practice- where do you practice and in what capacity?
In what instances have you worked with qualified NDs?
How do you see ND medical care fit into the spectrum of patient care?
How do qualified NDs demonstrate they are competent providers?
How does licensure improve health care for Wisconsinites?
